Quality & Testing
Tested batch by batch, traceable reel by reel
Every batch is tested for the electrical and mechanical properties that decide how insulation paper performs in a transformer, and every reel can be traced.
- ISO 9001:2015
- IS 8570 / IEC 60554
- ERDA Approved
- JVVNL Approved
- BHEL Approved
- Toshiba Approved
- Alstom Approved
Quality systems
Quality checks run at every stage of production, from pulp preparation through the paper machine, calendering and rewinding, and each stage keeps its own records.
TAI insulation paper is made to IS 8570 / IEC 60554 and is approved by ERDA for use as transformer insulation.
TAI is an ISO 9001:2015 certified company.
Traceability
Every manufactured batch is tested both online and offline for the critical electrical and mechanical properties.
Each reel can be traced back to the production parameters it was made under, so a question about material in the field can be answered against the record of its production.
What we test
Critical properties for Electrical Grade Insulation Kraft Paper, measured on every batch and reported on the test certificate. Test methods follow IEC 60554-2.
| Property | Unit | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| pH in extract | - | Chemical neutrality, which protects the paper and oil against long-term degradation |
| Ash content | % | Inorganic residue, kept low for clean dielectric behaviour |
| Electrical strength | kV/mm | Dielectric strength under electrical stress |
| Conductivity of aqueous extract | mS/m | Ionic contamination, the primary measure of insulation efficiency |
| Grammage | g/m² | Mass per unit area, consistent from reel to reel |
| Thickness (5 sheets) | µm | Thickness uniformity against the specified grade |
| Density | g/cm³ | Compactness of the sheet, which governs electrical and mechanical properties |
| Tensile index MD | N·m/g | Strength along the machine direction during winding |
| Tensile index CD | N·m/g | Strength across the machine direction during winding |
| Elongation MD | % | Stretch before break along the machine direction |
| Elongation CD | % | Stretch before break across the machine direction |
| Tear index MD | mN·m²/g | Resistance to tearing during winding and edgefolding |
| Tear index CD | mN·m²/g | Resistance to tearing across the machine direction |
| Air permeability | µm/(Pa·s) | Porosity of the sheet, tested on the thinnest grades (1.5 to 2.5 mil) |
| Water absorption | mm | Absorbency, an indicator of how the paper takes up oil on impregnation |
| Moisture content | % | Water held in the paper as supplied, kept within limits for drying-out |
